So here is the big secret … ready?
The more you focus on losing weight, the less weight you’ll lose.
We get SO over involved, we think about it non stop, what if I don’t lose weight, what if I lose weight but gain it back, or what if I eat everything in sight without even realizing it….?
Talk about a non stop experience of stress.
LET IT GO
Turn it over to you body, let her know that you TRUST her.
The more we stay out of it, the less we try to figure it all out, and the calmer we become.
When we’re stressed we’re actually resisting change, and we’re doubting that our body knows what is best for us.
Think about this for a moment.
If our body is feeling great, energized and feeling her absolute best, do you think she would naturally reach for a bag of m&ms and scarf the whole bag down?
This can feel REALLY odd when we start to listen to our body instead of what others are throwing at us, because we’ve been taught from a very early age to question our own beliefs. We’ve been told we are wrong and “they” are right”
How good do you feel when you’re in deprivation mode, when you are told this food is good, this food is bad and if you reach for that, you’re bad.
There aren’t bad foods.
It’s how we choose to eat them.
A few bites of cake is okay, you aren’t going to gain any weight from that because you’re doing it consciously, you’re aware and present, you’re in agreement with this decision.
Clients often tell me, I just have no control over my eating so I am terrified to not follow a plan and listen to my body because for years, my body’s made the wrong decisions.
But when we looked at this together, we see that they were actually living in deprivation, following someone else rules that had zero to do with what they actually enjoyed eating. Yes, when they had a rouge moment, they went wild, they rebelled because in their mind they were rebelling against this ”program” like a parent telling a teen they can’t see a certain friend. However once they saw they were actually rebelling against themselves, THEIR own body and the fact THEY have the power to change all this. WOW…in that moment they see this is where the change is born.
Habits lose their power to weigh us down when we stay in the present moment because we can clearly see we actually have a choice!
It’s not the food that is good or bad, it’s when we fall into old comfortable habits, when we go “zombie mode” its then that we make unconscious decisions.
Staying mindful, and allowing yourself to see you making the decisions IN partnership with your body to better yourself.
This is when you are in alignment to become the healthiest version of you.
Here are some tips I like to give to my clients:
* Create a pause when you find yourself doing something out of of habit.
* Take a long breath
* Check in with yourself
Then ask yourself, “Do I consciously choose to do this?”
Now you’re in the driver’s seat but you’re not alone. You are there as a whole person, and your body is there to center you, to guide you, to keep you aware.
Let the obsession of losing weight go. Accept where you’re at right in this moment because change can only happen from this very moment!
